Africa, the great mother of the species, is undergoing ‘sustained development’. Unfortunately, as we are well aware, much of its flora and fauna will not survive the process. For the sake of the miraculous march of civilization, jungle and savanna and elephants and gorillas and the big cats (and many more incidental casualties) are expendable. Their disappearance (our ‘taking them out’, as the saying goes) is a sad but necessary cost of doing business…
