Eviscerating language

Except for 3 people in Podunk, everybody is aware of the extreme double standards regularly invoked by our governments and media and entertainment industries.  Even to mention them seems absurd.  They are the air we breathe.  The air we are bequeathing to our children and grandchildren for them to breathe. Violations of civil rights in Iran or Venezuela or Cuba are despicable; mass killing by Nato is a triumph of the human spirit. North Korean hacking of a movie company is a threat to civilization; Israeli hacking of an Iranian nuclear facility is an affirmation of eternal values.

In the background, driving these double standards, is the evisceration of language.  Words and especially the most important words no longer have meaning.  Justice? Truth? Right and wrong? These have become subject to United Nations veto and to small print conditions. But it was once held that creation itself came through words: Let there be light. And that in the beginning the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Killing words has left them without value except as resources to be put to use.  Justifying our violence, no matter how large, condemning it in others, no matter how small.

Do you think language is a dispensable item on the way to a grand future?

Congratulations!  You are a conservative!
