Everything in American life (the life the rest of the planet can’t wait to share) is designed to promote an unlimited violence against whatever would maintain itself against it (like traditional cultures, including its own) or is needed by it for its consumption (in this respect, traditional peoples and their lands or seas are no different from feedlots) — and a sense of righteousness. On the one hand, cultures, languages, gods, people, fauna and flora are ‘taken out’ (a verb now routinely used in the news media for ‘exterminated’ and ‘blown to bits’) at an astonishing rate to which no attention whatever is paid. No accounting is made of the progress of the American way. On the other hand, Adrian Peterson cannot play football because he disciplined his son unacceptably.  Or games must be halted while ‘replay officials’ minutely re-examine, in excruciating detail, whether the ball belongs one inch or two inches from a disputed placement. In ever-repeated ways like this, Americans can rest assured that nothing goes without examination (hence the armies of ‘investigative reporters’) and that they are exceptionally sensitive — in fact uniquely sensitive — to the slightest injustice.
